Weakness in the Defences

If you get infected, you may not even know; but your body will know.
The body is an amazingly complex system, and an amazing complex of systems.
It is beautiful and fascinating, and just as it is baffling.

If you get infected, the virus will get to work doing what it does.
It is parasitic; so it needs host cells to survive and to survive it needs to replicate.
The body senses a threat and begins engaging a complex system of defensive reactions.

These reactions are logical; bio-logical: they make somatic sense.
The body wants to protect its status quo,
and one would imagine that it was more than capable of doing this,
especially for those who believe in divine design,
expecting to see the signature of the creator in its creation.

However, it is likely in the case of this particular virus if the infection is serious,
that it is your defences that will kill you.

Your immune system will go through the normal motions to keep the body healthy,
eliminating any threats necessary.
However, if the infection is serious enough,
the immune system will go into all-out-war,
sending out its elite army of white blood cells; the leukocytes, against the virus.
Mechanisms are triggered which will fill the body with fluids,
and unfortunately in the case of this virus that attacks the lower respiratory system,
this fluid will also start to fill the lungs.

Now you have a new problem.

Our psychological defense mechanisms are not dissimilar.
They make sense, they have a kind of logic,
so much so that we don't even realise that they are operating in our everyday behaviours.

Some of these defences originate in the story of our ego genesis, and others we adopt, practice and perfect along the way.

But, they may not serve us as well as we would hope.
